A lot of good progress this week! After looking at the chair for a week, I started with the layout and initial painting yesterday.
The process has been different for me in many ways. I had thought that because of the nature of the project, that I might approach the design differently. Instead, I am approaching it just like a canvas and sketching and painting directly onto the chair with no preliminary work whatsoever. My work has always had a very spontaneous nature to it, and this endeavor doesn’t look like it’s going to be any different.
I normally paint sitting down with a table-top easel, but half the time I am manipulating the canvas – turning it, tilting it, etc. With the chair, that’s not so easy, so I have been standing and tilting the chair as I go.
This is one of the reasons I love stretching out with new projects, because it nudges me out of my comfort zone, and points me in a different direction.
Gabriella and I will be doing our first SoWa Market date this Sunday. The inventory is done, and the rest of the week is going to be spent on working on the fine details – pricing, display set up, etc.
In addition to the 5 dates that we already have scheduled, we found out today that there were some extra spots for the big open studio weekend that takes place on September 25 and 26. We jumped right on it and got confirmation this afternoon. This will be excellent exposure for us, as over 10,000 people will be attending the event.. It’s going to be an exciting and busy Autumn!
Next week, there will be plenty of photos from the market as well as additional progress on the chair.
I can sense an upsurge in the creative energy from all of my Blogger friends, and with the changing of the seasons, comes that new energy and growth. It’s good to see!
I hope everyone has has a great week. Thank you for stopping here!
